Hand Embroidery Design for 1826 Floral Sprigged Apron or Fichu.

Description

This listing is for a hand embroidery pattern for a waving border of vines with leaves and flowers, edged with delicate scallops. There is also a small floral spray that can be used alone or with the border to create aprons or handkerchiefs suitable for the late 18th and early 19th centuries. This design for muslin embroidery was originally published in the June 1826 edition of Ackermann’s Repository of Arts, Literature, Commerce, Manufactures, Fashions and Politics, as seen in the third image.

This design includes 4 pieces: two corners, one straight border section, and the floral spray. This design forms a square approximately 9″ x 9″ when you use two corners and one border. Each additional border piece adds approximately 3.5″. Samples have been stitched in fine cotton embroidery thread on cotton lawn, using the options for a cutwork edge.

We make every effort to ensure that our embroidery designs are well-researched so you can use them with confidence on your historical costuming projects. They may copy the wobbles or slight flaws in an original design, to help keep them from looking too perfect and modern.  All our files are accompanied by a detailed description of the original design as well as stitching instructions and thread recommendations so you can get the most out of these designs.

You will receive a detailed PDF containing historical notes, tips for transferring your pattern, the embroidery design, and reversed design.

Finished size: The largest piece is 3.5″ x 3.75″, and can be pieced together to create an apron, handkerchief, or fichu of various sizes.

This file will be available for immediate download once payment is processed. All digital sales are final and cannot be refunded, so please check your purchase carefully. If you have any questions about the suitability of this design, please ask before buying.
