Machine Embroidery Design for a ladies’ early 18th century pocket.

Description

This listing is for a machine embroidery design for an early-18th century pocket decorated with a floral bouquet and sprigs of flowers. This design is based on an extant example in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum, accession number T.42-1935.

This design comes in 5 parts, which must be aligned to create the full design. We recommend stitching it in 12 weight cotton thread or Lana wool blend embroidery thread for the most authentic period look, as you can see in the sample photos. 30 weight silk thread is another period correct option.

We make every effort to ensure that our machine embroidery designs evoke period hand embroidery techniques, and are well-researched so you can use them with confidence on your historical costuming projects. They may copy the wobbles or slight flaws in an original design, to help keep them from looking too perfect and modern. They may contain details that you are not used to seeing in modern machine embroidery designs, such as more color changes or jump stitches between areas. All our files are accompanied by a detailed description of the original design as well as stitching instructions and thread recommendations so you can get the most out of these designs.

You will receive a detailed PDF along with the digital files needed to stitch out this design on a wide variety of embroidery machines. The PDF contains historical notes, embroidery and sewing instructions, and a pattern for cutting out the pocket layers.

Hoop size: This design will fit in 5″x7″ hoops.
Finished size: approximately 13″ H x 9″ W
File types included: DST, EXP, HUS, JEF, PES, SEW, VIP, VP3, XXX. If you need another file type, please message us and we will try to accommodate your request.

This file will be available for immediate download once payment is processed. All digital sales are final and cannot be refunded, so please check your purchase carefully. If you have any questions about the suitability of this design, please ask before buying.

Unless otherwise specified in an individual listing, the purchase of a Romantic Recollections, LLC embroidery design grants you a single-user license. This means you can use our designs to create items for personal use or to sell. You may not sell, share, trade, or give away the design files themselves.

This is a lovely pocket and lovely project to stitch! The design work is great and I really appreciated how easy it was to match designs during the re-hooping process – the end result was just perfect and all the stitching was beautifully aligned. I’ve already made three (because who doesn’t need extra??), two with silk thread, but I think the one I stitched with a Lana wool blend was my favorite. It does a great job of mimicking the hand-sewn heirloom effect that I’m looking for in historical machine embroidery. The finishing instructions were also easy to follow to and I’m pretty excited to have some new pockets ready to use or give as gifts to fellow costumers. Thanks for making such a fun, and slightly-addictive-to-stitch, design!
